Examples of Usage and Case Studies

Motor Racing

A major motor racing event uses plastic wristbands as part of a system to prevent unauthorized use of around 3,000 credentials distributed to media, race sponsors and VIP guests. Those persons are required to wear credentials and wristbands on their wrists in order to gain access to the pits and areas where regular ticket holds cannot go. The wristband must be attached in the presence of race officials before credentials are issued.

Race promoters say the purpose of the system is to eliminate credential abuses. In the past children were seen in the pit area wearing valid press credentials as the race cars zoomed by dangerously close.

The system prevents the transfer of credentials from an authorized person to an unauthorized one.

Corporate

A leading champagne brand had disaster strike at a major vent. Its traveling bistro/club would cater with steak tartare, pate, brie cheese and strawberries in addition to 100 cases of champagne for the two day celebration.

They had issued 600 badges for this particular event and had previously used badges elsewhere. They estimate they were hit by more than 1000 badges from legitimate guests and members who couldn't attend passed on badges to friends and so they were hit by people they wouldn't normally seek to attract. There were double shufflers, legitimate guests who borrowed badges from acquaintances already inside the club, who slipped them to friends outside where were able to enter without challenge and members who sold their badges to outsiders after enjoying the hospitality. The club ran out of supplies an absolute PR disaster.

The following year they introduced plastic wristbands which couldn't be transferred and as a result of the wristband identification system the crowd was reduced from a boisterous 1000 to a manageable 500 and the celebration was a complete success.
