Artwork Process
The majority of companies use either an external design/marketing agency or they have an in-house team responsible for corporate branding. These days a high percentage of artwork is created digitally. It's just a case of tracking down and using the right format.
An artwork approval will be supplied via fax/email prior to commencement of order.
This must be returned for order to commence. Please also note: We do not supply a printed product sample for approval.
Once you choose the wristband or identification product you want, you'll need to supply your artwork to our in-house art department for imprinting. Sending the artwork file via email is fairly straightforward, but you will need to firstly supply the right type of art file.
Artwork Charges
Wizid art department reserves the right to determine acceptable art that may vary according to product. Artwork submitted in vector format is recommended. Customers will be notified if art is unacceptable. An excess artwork fee of $75.00 (AUD) will be charged if artwork is not supplied according to Wizid standard artwork requirements.
Step 1 - The correct artwork files
First, it's important to know that the logo used on your website is not sufficient for any job. It may be the wrong format, the wrong size, not detailed enough, or all three. Sending non-standard graphics can result in delays and additional charges if our art department has to convert the file for you or artwork is not supplied according to our various product requirements before printing of your job is commenced.
As you get into the world of digital artwork, you'll need to know the difference between vector and raster files:
Bitmap Images
These are comprised of pixels in a grid. Each pixel or 'bit' in the image contains information about the colour to be displayed. Bitmap images have a fixed resolution and cannot be resized without losing image quality. This raster artwork quickly gets 'blocky' and jagged as it's enlarged. Some common bitmap-based formats are JPEG, GIF, TIFF, and PICT. Most bitmap images can be converted to other bitmap-based formats very easily. Bitmap images tend to have much larger file sizes than vector graphics and they are often compressed to reduce their size. Raster file formats like JPEG and GIF are standard on the Web, but usually aren't the best for imprinting, unless we have indicated their acceptability.
Vector Graphics
These are made up of many individual objects. Each of these objects can be defined by mathematical statements and has individual properties assigned to it such as colour, fill, and outline. Vector graphics are resolution independent because they can be output to the highest quality at any scale.
Vector graphics tend to have much smaller file sizes than raster-based bitmaps. Vector-based EPS files are almost always a better choice, and we indicate what type of files we prefer. Wizid only accepts all files supplied in Illustrator EPS - Outlines - Version 10 or lower. (This is strictly a vector file format - not bitmap).
Software
Here is a list of some software packages that produce Bitmap and Vector files:
- Bitmap
Photoshop layered .psd
Photoshop .eps, .jpg, .bmp
Microsoft Paint
- Vector
Adobe Illustrator .ai, eps
Macromedia Freehand .fh, eps
We also do not accept: page layout programs such as Quark Express, MS Word or Pagemaker. File formats such as .doc, .pub, .vcf, .exe and .dat are unacceptable.
Step 2 - The correct product colour and image resolution
Product colours
The colour of all Wizid products represented on this site and colour swatches visible on Wizid product pages are meant to provide an approximation of colour of the item. Due to differences in monitors, web browsers, and computer operating systems, the colour of any particular item may vary from the colour represented on the product page.
Colour Information
When sending your art files you will also need to supply the correct colour information for your product. We usually indicate PMS (Pantone Matching System) colour availability with each type of wristband product but with certain types of identification products and in certain custom printing situations you may need to indicate the PMS colour required, but if in doubt this can be discussed with our art department beforehand.
Download the Pantone Colour Chart
Image Resolution
Any images supplied with your artwork will also need to have an adequate resolution. Most web images have a resolution of only 72 DPI (dots per inch), but imprinting wristband products works best with 300 DPI or higher. Our preferred resolution for images is 300 DPI.
Step 3 - Submitting your artwork
Acceptable programs and requirements
At Wizid our art department operates in a PC format. Acceptable artwork formats for printing include only Adobe Illustrator .eps (Encapsulated Post Script). Wizid will only accept all files supplied in Illustrator EPS - Outlines - Version 10 or lower. (This is strictly a vector file format - not bitmap). NO GRADIENTS. Art must be editable vector art. In regards to printing on Ideal Band, Ideal Band Wide, Ultra-Tag, Access Band, Access Band Long, Cash-Tag, Silicone Bands and colour printing on Tuff-Bands, no other file format can be accepted.
We require high quality black and white line artwork, printed at a minimum of 300 dpi, must be 100% of the actual imprint size. Art must have crisp, sharp edges and needs no further touch up. We cannot use pre-screened/pre-tinted artwork or halftones. Some thin lines, small copy and reverses may not reproduce as submitted and may need to be altered to imprint clearly.
Please, no scanned, embedded or placed images, no JPEG, GIF, DOC, PSD or PICT files, as these are Bitmap files and can not be changed. These file formats are generally low resolution - only suitable for viewing on-screen or on the web - not for printing and cannot be appropriately modified.
Also note, that JPEG, GIF, DOC, PSD or PICT images are not usable if saved as TIFF or EPS. They are still basically not editable.
However, for our Tuff-Band wristband product range, JPEG, BITMAP, PCX and TIFF are acceptable set at 300 dpi. GREYSCALE ONLY.
REMEMBER FOR ALL PLASTIC AND VINYL DESIGNS (EXCLUDING TUFF-BAND WRISTBANDS), WE REQUIRE CLEAN BLACK AND WHITE LINE ARTWORK ONLY. 300 DPI MINIMUM. DO NOT INCLUDE BACKGROUND COLOURS!
If you are unable to provide artwork in any of the acceptable Wizid file types for the respective category of products as indicated above, our art department can recreate it or perform any artwork modifications necessary to support your wristband or identification design solutions at an hourly rate of $75.00 (AUD).
General Information
Reduce the file size if possible, particularly if you plan to send the artwork by e-mail. Use one of the following programs to compress your file (please remember to name your file): WinZip, 7-Zip, WinRar
Fonts
Important: Before submitting any electronic art, please OUTLINE ALL FONTS. We require that you convert all text to outlines or paths before sending artwork to us. Contact us if you have any questions.
Any text should be no less than 8pt
Artwork Approval Proof
We will fax/email you a proof of artwork for approval prior to commencement of order, although that does not guarantee how your product will look once it has been printed. Email proofs are always included free with your order and MUST BE RETURNED FOR ORDER TO COMMENCE.
